How to become a PAAZA Member or Partner:
The Pan-African Association unites, at an international level, African Zoological Gardens, Aquaria, Sanctuaries, Re-habilitation centres and all like-minded organisations and individuals willing to abide by its constitution and comply with all other rules and regulations set by the Association, including (but not limited to), its Code of Professional Ethics and compulsory Operational Accreditation which is based on best International Welfare practices.
There is only One Membership category:
INSTITUTIONAL MEMBER – restricted to bona-fide African Zoos and Aquaria as defined by the constitution of PAAZA. Must comply with Operational Accreditation assessment.
There are 9 Partner categories:
INTRODUCTORY (UNDER CONSTRUCTION) PARTNER - Specifically granted to zoos and aquaria that are under construction and who want to apply for Institutional Membership directly after opening.
CONSERVATION PARTNER - may be awarded to any African Trust, Foundation or organisation not for gain whose activities are in accordance with those of Zoos and Aquaria. These partners will not have animal collections for public or recreational viewing but may be part of a PAAZA™ African Preservation programme (APP).
SANCTUARY PARTNER - may be awarded to any African Trust, Foundation or organisation who have as their primary business as providing permanent care to a specimen, particularly of a listed threatened or protected species.
Re-HAB FACILITY PARTNER - may be awarded to a bona-fide facility for the temporary keeping of live sick or injured specimens or young orphan specimens for rearing purposes.
CAPTIVE BREEDING PARTNER - may be awarded to a bona-fide facility where specimens, particularly of a listed threatened or protected animal species, is bred and born in a controlled environment.
INTERNATIONAL PARTNER - may be awarded to any non-African Zoo, aquaria or organisation whose activities are in accordance with those of Zoos and Aquaria.
INDIVIDUAL PARTNER - may be awarded to any individual interested in promoting the activities and aims of Zoos and Aquaria.
COMMERCIAL PARTNER - may be awarded to a Company that is a service provider or consultant and shares an interest in Zoos and Aquaria.These members do not hold any animals.
COMMERCIAL PARTNER with ANIMALS - may be awarded to a Company that is a service provider or consultant and shares an interest in Zoos and Aquaria.TheY also own or hold animals, not open to recreational public viewing.
